What is the origin of Feng Shui
The philosophy finds its roots in ancient China, where people sought to settle in a place that would shield them from the elements, where fresh water could render the land fertile, and where they could live in harmony with the land and the seasons.
Wise men looked to the heavens to connect humanity with the earth.
They concluded that everything is based on two opposing forces, yin and yang. These represent concepts like night and day, dark and light, feminine and masculine. However, this was not refined enough. To interpret the nuances of the seasons and phases of human life, the doctrine of the five elements emerged.
These five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each represents a season and phases of life on earth, from birth to full bloom to death. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and the intermediate seasons.
WOOD
Wood symbolizes the vibrant energy of spring, signifying the emergence of new life. It parallels the enthusiasm and curiosity of young childhood, brimming with creativity and a sense of expansion.
Yin Wood embodies the delicate growth of grass or young twigs, while Yang Wood represents the sturdy presence of mature trees or dense forests.
FIRE
Fire embodies the essence of summer, where all things shine brightly and reveal their splendor. It symbolizes visibility and living authentically from the heart, embracing the courage to express one’s true self.
Yin Fire is akin to the gentle glow of a candle illuminating our path, while Yang Fire represents the blazing intensity of the sun.
EARTH
Earth embodies the shifting seasons, the nurturing Mother archetype, and the essence of nourishment. It provides stability and serenity, akin to a sturdy rock amid turbulent waters, offering support and grounding.
Yin Earth is akin to the softness of sand, while Yang Earth embodies the unwavering strength of a mighty mountain.
METAL
Metal embodies the essence of autumn, a time for reaping what has been sown and contemplating life’s journey. It symbolizes spirituality, financial matters, and the paternal archetype.
Yin Metal gleams like a precious jewel, while Yang Metal can embody the relentless sharpness of a sword.
WATER
Water corresponds to winter, where much activity occurs beneath the surface, hidden from view. It signifies movement and is seen as the great life force, facilitating communication and transportation.
Yin Water is akin to the tranquility of mist on a still lake, while Yang Water embodies the dynamic flow of a rushing river.
The essence of Feng Shui lies in the harmony between Human and Nature.
Our environment supports us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Balance in these three aspects enables us to feel love and affection for both ourselves and our surroundings.
Despite its ancient origins, Feng Shui remains highly relevant in our modern lives.
It seamlessly integrates into our quest for balance amidst life’s complexities, especially as boundaries blur between our personal and public spheres. In such a fast-paced world, our homes can serve as sanctuaries, nurturing our energy and offering solace.
Utilizing various tools like yin and yang, the five elements, Gua, BaZi, the eight compass directions, and the Bagua, I guide you towards tailored solutions that enhance both your immediate surroundings and your personal well-being. By reigniting your love for your environment, you’ll discover that when you care for it, it returns that care in abundance.
Love your environment, and it will love you in return.
You are at the heart of every consultation.
